Since 1999, we have performed the Videofluoroscopic swallowing examination (VF) for patients with dysphagia in Department of Oral Radiology, Asahi University Dental Hospital A VF imaging system consisting of a x-ray fluoroscopic unit, VF chair, digital video recorder and computers for imaging analysis was designed Eighty VF studies in 67patients have been performed, and the clinical apphvation of VF is increasing VF has predominantly been used in juvenile cerebral palsy patients, while in aged patients, VF was commonly used for follow-up in oral cancer and stroke. The procedure in our VF study was designed to represent the usual feeding process in individual patient. Deep pharyngeal penetration and/or aspiration were found in 70% of patients.
