The articular discs were removed from rats at 3, 4, 6 and 10 weeks after birth. Fibril collagen was extracted from the discs and solubilized by pepsin digestion. Pepsin-soluble collagen molecules were fractionated by interrupted gel electrophoresis in a denatured state and analyzed immunochemically by Western blotting. The content of fibril collagen increased with age, especially in the 4-week extracts. The fibril coolagen in discs consisted mainly of type I, and small amounts of type Ⅱ and Ⅲ. No remarkable changes were observed on the distribution amount for type Ⅰ collagen with age.
