The mean value of the maximal mouth opening increased with age, and the value was greater in boys than in girls.\n2. The incidence of TMD significantly increased with age. There were no differences based on gender from pre-school to junior high school, but females showed a significantly higher incidence than males in high school.\n3. As for the continuation rate for three years of the TMD symptoms, it was higher in the high school than in the junior high school students, especially in females.\n4. In the temporal relationship between laryngeal movement and orofacial muscle activities, the temporalis and masseter muscles were activated before the onset of the sudden laryngeal elevation when swallowing, whereas the onset of the digastric and myelohyoid muscle activities nearly coincided with the laryngeal elevation.\n5. There was a tendency that the onset of the digastric and myelohyoid muscle activities of adults was earlier than that of children.\n6. The onset of digastric and myelohyoid muscle activities at the chin-down and the extended position of the head was earlier than that at the upright position. However, the onset of digastric and myelohyoid muscle activities at the declined position of the trunk was more delayed than that at the upright
