| 内容記述 | In China, any discussion of Haruki Murakami’s literature inevitably involves Lin Shaohua’s translations. On the one hand, “Lin’s translation” is highly praised; on the other hand, Lin Shaohua’s advocacy of “aesthetic fidelity” has been criticised by scholars. This paper examines Fujii Shozo’s criticism of Lin’s translations and analyses the concept of “aesthetic fidelity” and its practical implications from the perspectives of translation theory and practice. It argues that Fujii’s criticism of Lin Shaohua was not intended to improve the translation quality of Murakami’s works, but rather to serve his goal of constructing a literary history of twentieth-century East Asia. While “aesthetic fidelity” is also a theory that emphasises fidelity, it requires the original work to embody the qualities of an “ink wash painting”, and the translator to possess both a high level of language skills and in-depth textual research skills. | |||||
