PPD7mm以上部位の割合(%)と相関関係を認めたのはTIMP-2、IL-6sR、MIP-1β、ICAM-1。BOP(%)と相関関係を認めたのはMIP-1βであった。今回、相関関係を認めたサイトカインは歯周病の重症診断の一助となる可能性が示唆された。中でもMIP-1βは平均PPD、PPD7mm以上部位の割合、BOPと多くの歯周検査値との間に相関を認めた。MIP-1βは歯周炎の重症度を示すマーカーとして期待される。 Microarrays now enable the simultaneous, exhaustive measurement of the levels of several dozens to over 100 different blood cytokines. We investigated the association between clinical indicators and blood cytokine levels in patients with severe periodontitis. The subjects were patients examined in the Periodontics Clinic of Asahi University Hospital who provided written informed consent to participate in the study. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Asahi University (approval number 20064). The subjects comprised 16 men and 10 women. After an oral examination, dental radiography (10 images) and periodontal examination [probing pocket depth (PPD), bleeding on probing (BOP), and tooth mobility] were performed. On the basis of these test results, the subjects were divided into two groups : the Perio group comprising 18 subjects with severe chronic periodontitis or aggressive periodontitis (10 men and 8 women; mean age 38.5 years) and the Healthy group comprising 8 subjects with healthy periodontal tissue (6 men and 2 women; mean age 29.5 years). Cytokines were detected using the Human Inflammation Antibody Array-Membrane. Macrophage inflammatory protein-1β (MIP-1β), intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), interleukin-6 soluble receptor (IL-6sR), and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 (TIMP-2) were correlated with mean PPD (mm). TIMP-2, IL-6sR, MIP-1β, and ICAM-1 were also correlated with the percentage of sites with PPD⊇7mm. MIP-1β was correlated with BOP (%). Our results suggested that the cytokines found to be correlated with the periodontal examination score may contribute to the determination of periodontitis severity. In particular, MIP-1β was correlated with several test values for periodontitis : mean PPD, the percentage of sites with PPD⊇7mm, and BOP.
