内容記述 | In Japan, the MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) new curriculum guidelines were officially implemented in 2022 starting with first-year students in high schools, which will transition to second- and third-year students in the coming years. English education based on the new curriculum guidelines are expected to help high school students acquire the basic knowledge [chishiki] and skills [ginou] of the English language. In addition, it is anticipated to develop their abilities to think [shikouryoku], make decisions [handanryoku], and express themselves [hyougenryoku] in English. However, the question is how it can be assessed whether students can successfully acquire these skills through the English education based on the new curriculum guidelines. This paper will illustrate the possibility of using the TOEFL Junior® Standard test, which was developed for junior and senior high school students all over the world by Educational Testing Service (ETS), to examine the effectiveness of English education led by the latest MEXT guidelines in Japan. | |||||||||
